Reviewing The Best Medicare Plans and Medicare Insurance

AARP Medicare Part D – MedicareRX

AARP MedicareRX is a Medicare Part D drug plan administered through United Healthcare.  Since it is Medicare Part D plan it follows the regular guidelines put out for Medicare Part D.  The plans are available across all fifty states, and feature extensive formularies that cover most prescription drugs.  Always check the plan’s formulary before enrolling.  There are two plans available based on your needs and budget.  The two plans available are the MedicareRX Preferred and MedicareRX Enhanced.

AARP MedicareRX Preferred

  1. This plan offers no deductible which is great for an entry level Prescription Drug Plan (PDP)
  2. This plan covers almost every generic available under Medicare Part D, and also covers many of the common brand drugs as well
  3. This plan offers no additional coverage during the coverage gap
  4. Pharmacy Saver program offers opportunity for generic drugs at $2 when filled at participating Pharmacy Saver pharmacies
  5. Mail order available

AARP MedicareRX Enhanced

  1. This plan offers no deductible
  2. Covers more than 95% of drugs available under Medicare Part D
  3. This plan covers some Tier 1 and Tier 2 drugs during the coverage gap
  4. Pharmacy Saver program offers opportunity for generic drugs at $2 when filled at participating Pharmacy Saver pharmacies
  5. Mail order available

Is AARP MedicareRX Right For You?

The best way to determine if either plan is the right plan for you is to start at www.medicare.gov.  Here you can enter in your drug name, dosage, and frequency.  You will then see a list of companies that cover your drugs at the best possible price based on drug plan premium, copay, and coverage gap.  If a plan has a deductible, but is cheaper over the course of the year then you should choose that plan.  Typically, if you are taking several name brand drugs then the MedicareRX Enhanced plan will probably be better than the MedicareRX Preferred plan.
