AR Blue Cross Medi Pak Advantage Review

AR Blue Cross Medi Pak Advantage is one of several Medicare Advantage programs offered through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Arkansas.  Obviously, Blue Medicare HMO PlansCross and Blue Shield needs no introduction as they are one of the most widely recognized names in health care.  The Medi Pak Advantage by AR Blue Cross is available in two forms.  One is is an MA-Only PFFS, and the other is an MA-PD PFFS plan.  There also is an Medi Pak Advantage Option 1 and Option 2 available which are reviewed separately.  Let’s look at what the MA-PD and MA-Only plans have to offer:

AR Blue Cross Medi Pak Advantage (MA-Only)

  • Premium – $27.20/monthly
  • Out of Pocket Maximum – $6,700
  • No Referrals Required
  • Hospital Copay – $265/day Days 1-6
  • Doctor’s Visits – Primary = $25; Specialist = $40
  • Outpatient Surgery – $250 copay
  • Labs – $0 copay
  • Diagnostic Procedures/Tests – $0 copay
  • X-rays – $0 copay
  • No prescription drug coverage
  • No preventative dental, vision, or hearing coverage provided

AR Blue Cross Medi Pak Advantage (MA-PD)

  • Premium – $75.10/monthly
  • Out of Pocket Maximum – $6,700
  • No Referrals Required
  • Hospital Copay – $265/day Days 1-6
  • Doctor’s Visits – Primary = $15; Specialist = $35
  • Outpatient Surgery – $250 copay
  • Labs – $0 copay
  • Diagnostic Procedures/Tests – $0 copay
  • X-rays – $0 copay
  • Part D Deductible – $230/annual
  • Part D Drug Copays – Tier 1 = $7; Tier 2 = $45; Tier 3 = $80; Tier 4 = 25%
  • No preventative dental, vision, or hearing coverage provided
PFFS plans mean that you can see any doctor that accepts the plan’s terms and conditions.  In addition, you may look to see if your doctor is in the plan’s network of doctors.  Most PFFS plans will have a network of doctors now.  Also note that you do not want to consider the MA-Only plan unless you have alternative access to drug coverage, such as VA or Group coverage that allows you to also carry a Medicare Advantage plan!
