First Health Part D Value Plus Premier and Premier Plus

The First Health Part D line of Medicare Prescription Drug plans (PDP’s) is offered through Coventry Health care.  All of these plans are available throughout the continental United States while Alaska and Hawaii do not have access to the Value Plus plan.  Coventry is a national company offering employer group coverage, individual health insurance, and workers’ compensation along with their Medicare Advantage plans and Prescription Drug Plans.  Coventry currently offers three PDP’s to Medicare beneficiaries across the country called First Health Part D Value Plus, First Health Part D Premier, and First Health Part D Premier Plus.  Let’s take a look at each one and see how they differ:

Notice:  The Premier Plus plan adds an additional tier labeled as Tier 2 which is comprised of Non-Preferred Generic drugs priced at $20.  Also, the Premier Plus plan is not available in all states!
In summary, the Value Plus plan offers a low premium with NO Deductible.  This is highly unusual for a Value plan to offer; however, it is also unusual to charge percentages on Tier 2 and Tier 3 drugs as well.  This plan is PERFECT for someone taking strictly generic drugs!  The Premier plan offers an affordable monthly premium with low Tier 1 costs, a broader formulary than the Value plan and savings for mail order.  Finally, the Premier Plus plan offers no deductible, an extensive formulary, and COVERAGE IN THE COVERAGE GAP!  Make sure to visit their website to find the rates for your area.
